Boom

Watch this episode

In the book Boom! by Mark Haddon, Jimbo is in a lot of trouble. He lives in the United Kingdom, right by the Heathrow Airport. His sister Becky was always telling him jokes to scare him. One day, Becky told him, “According to Mr. Kidd your work is rubbish. According to Mr. Kidd - and this is the really good bit- they’re thinking of sending you to that school in Fenham. You know, that special place for kids with problems.” He didn't believe her, but just in case he went to his friend Charlie for help. Charlie put a walkie-talkie in the teachers lounge. When they had their meeting, nothing was said about sending Jimbo away. But later, they heard two of their teachers talking in a strange language. They know one thing, the word they need to remember is ‘Spudvetch!’. When they get stopped by someone telling them to stop researching this, the next day Charlie is kidnapped. Jimbo and Becky had to go all the way to the Isle Of Skye on a motor bike.
I like the book because it is an adventure. There are small pictures, but just to represent the chapter. The genre is fiction. The reading level is probably Fifth Grade and up. It isn't that funny, but it is very adventurous and suspenseful. For example when Jimbo and Becky resting in a tent. Then Becky’s watch started glowing, burning her, and the hands were winding backwards. All by themselves. Then the chapter ended. It was very suspenseful. This book is a very good choice to read. When I read it, it was so good I read it in two and a half days. I started on a Friday, and finished up on Sunday.
